Which Ingredients Do Double Duty In Real Purity Baby Products?
Although we take a great deal of pride in our entire product line, we take particular care with items for babies and toddlers. That’s why we try to keep our ingredient lists short and develop formulas that are not only gentle, but safe to use as well.
With this in mind, we know that most of our ingredients need to serve more than one purpose in a formula if they’re going to be truly effective. If you’re wondering which ones we admire the most, read on to see which ingredients do double duty in Real Purity Baby Products.
REAL PURITY BABY SHAMPOO
Watermelon Seed Essential Oil: Watermelon Seed Essential Oil is a surprisingly beneficial ingredient that is perfect for your baby’s hair and scalp. This essential oil contains a high concentration of protein (which contains essential amino acids like lysine, arginine, tryptophan and glutamic acid) that keeps hair healthy and strong. The unsaturated fatty acids in watermelon seed also serve the secondary purpose of keeping the scalp moisturized – a key component for baby skin, which dries out easily.
Kosher Vegetable Glycerin: Kosher Vegetable Glycerin serves two primary purposes in this formula – it seals in moisture to the top layer of our skin and restores elasticity, while also acting as a humectant to soften dry and brittle hair. Its naturally non-irritating and soothing characteristics make it a perfect addition to our Baby Shampoo formula. Wondering why we emphasize that it’s kosher? Many types of glycerin are derived from petroleum or animal fat, so by using Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, we ensure that this ingredient is sourced only from mineral and vegetable sources, making it as friendly to our environment as it is to your baby’s skin.
REAL PURITY BABY POWDER
Zea Mays (Corn) Starch: Baby powder is one of the most useful items for a new mom, especially if their child suffers from bouts of diaper rash. However, recent research has caused parents to avoid many of the traditional talc-containing baby powders, which can enter babies’ lungs and cause respiratory problems. Zea mays (corn) starch can be a more natural alternative to talc, which is one reason we include it in our baby powder formula. Many also claim that it improves oil & moisture absorbency, as well as creates a smoother skin texture.
*Please note: many moms swear by corn starch as a go-to remedy for diaper rash, but in some cases (like yeast or bacterial infections) corn starch can hinder, rather than help, because it feeds bacterial growth. We recommend caution when using this ingredient on its own, and only using it as a light dusting on dry skin.
Arrowroot Powder: This is an ideal ingredient to use in our Baby Powder formula. Because this ingredient acts as an anti-inflammatory and an antiseptic, it is perfect for drying out wounds, rashes, blemishes or – yep, you guessed it – diaper rashes! And because it’s derived from the tropical Maranta arundinaceae plant before being washed, dried, and ground into a type of flour, this superfine powder will not cause further irritation for your baby’s skin or worry for the parent applying it.
