Three "Cs" for Beautiful Skin This Winter
Natural skin care is what the best of us aspire to in our daily diet and beautification rituals.
Of course, certain ingredients are better than others – and today, we’re looking at those that start with the letter "C". Read below and find your way to beautiful skin with the benefits of these ingredients.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C, present in citrus fruits and dark leafy greens, is an antioxidant, which protect skin against problem environmental influences like pollutants, UV rays and cigarette smoke.
In addition to limiting damage by UV Rays and free radicals, doctors and researchers at the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University have found that Vitamin C in the diet seems to cause "notable decreases in skin wrinkling."
Topical application of Vitamin C decreases the appearance of roughness, decreases the risk of dry skin, and reduces swelling caused by blemishes.
Chamomile
Chamomile has soothed sensitive skin for centuries. Like Vitamin C, chamomile reduces inflammation, and also provides relief from eczema, psoriasis and dry, flaky skin. Notably, texts from hundreds of years ago also cite its ability to provide immunity against disease as one of its benefits.
Cumin
Cumin is not only one of the — it appears in the world's oldest cookbook — in medieval times it was a form of currency used to pay rents. Its value extends to its skin-care properties, too. Per Organic Facts, cumin is high in Vitamin E (another antioxidant), a natural antibacterial and may reduce age spots and sagging skin. Cumin will not only aid digestion and boost immune function, it may keep your skin smooth and supple from the inside out.
Honorable Mention: Salmon
Okay okay, no, this is not a "c" word - but it sure sounds like one! And we would be remiss if we didn't include this ingredient, which has fatty acids and Vitamin A that enhance skin quality and its health. Omega-3 fatty acids also play a key role in reducing free radical damage - a.k.a., the signs of aging!
